THE WRITING-DIRECTING LAB
The writing-directing lab is a year-long program consisting of both script clinics and scene-study
classes.
Script
clinics: Script clinics are designed for feedback on story concepts, outlines at various stages of developments,
written scenes, short scripts, portion of feature scripts, and entire drafts of feature scripts.
Scene work: Scene study sessions offer writers the opportunity to workshop
their material with actors. These sessions can be used to create and inspire new material by guiding actors through improvisations,
honing one's writing skills by watching one's writing come to life through performances, or to develop directorial techniques
and seeing one's vision become fully realized. Writers interested in directing have the opportunity to rehearse their material
with actors outside of class, showecase their work, and then be coached through a guided rehearsal process.
Class goals:
• Build a writing practice and network of support
• Un-do writing and creative blocks and find one's own, unique voice
• Strengthen an understading of story structure and hone one's craft as a writer and story-teller
• Gain effective directorial tools that evoke powerful and natural performances that work
well on camera
• Develope material
that is ready for production, whether it's an excercise shoot, a professional short, a webisode, pilot, or a feature film
• Discuss marketing and production; network with filmmakers and
actors towards collaborations on independent productions
Lab
terminates with a public showcase of our work in July, 2012.
